Model UN at Durham

Event Description

I was lucky to attend the 2015 Durham Model United Nation international conference at the end of January. It was especially a good time since I have just finished my finals at university so it was a good way to relax and still do something useful. Our three-men (to be honest, one woman and two men) delegation was ready to rock! I was informed a bit late of the attendance, but I was happy that I got to represent the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council. On the first day of the conference we had the chance to attend an astonishing opening ceremony in one of the cathedrals that was once a set for the Harry Potter movies. Approximately 70 people participated in this conference, divided to five different councils, debating several modern day issues including the surge of ISIL or rights of migrants and possible frameworks to provide a lasting solution. During the conference and after sessions we had the chance to socialize in several places, from pub nights to a formal reception with tuxedo and cocktail dresses. We explored the magnificent and spectacular Durham, in its very centre the university that served as the venue for the conference. It was a small town, but such a lovely town you cannot see in every corner of the world!
